About Daily Proverb

In December 2009 I started reading a chapter of Proverbs every night to my two-year-old before putting him to bed. It started as an experiment, and it turned into a tradition. He loves it! He doesn’t understand a word of it, of course, but I think the words get into his spirit somehow.

More importantly, I came to understand the book in a whole new way. The Proverbs were written as a father speaking to a son about wisdom, folly, God, decisions, good companions, bad ones, and life in general.

Reading an entire chapter at a time, though, doesn’t make all that much sense. It’s meant to be broken into little nuggets, most of which are only a couple lines long. Other nuggets last an entire chapter. This blog was made to release one of those nuggets each day until the book is done. I’m not sure how long it will take. Other than this page, I don’t intend to provide any commentary or discussion.

You can follow on Tumblr if you have an account, or you can get a link to each day’s nugget via Twitter. I’m working on a way of sending notifications via Facebook, too. My hope is that you’ll follow, and that every now and then you’ll get just the piece of wisdom you need for that day.

All proverbs are provided in the New American Standard translation. Because it’s my favorite.
